Boomsday 2007

2007 was our first Boomsday. Sure, we lived in Knoxville in 2006, but we were new and didn’t know about Boomsday. For all of you non-Knoxvillians, Boomsday is the AWESOME fireworks show the city puts on for Labor Day. Sure, we could be like the rest of the country and put on our big display at July 4th, but that’s not how we roll. We wait until Labor Day then we hire the company that does the July 4th fireworks in D.C. to come blow up the Henley Street Bridge over the Tennessee River. It’s a crazy huge deal. They have fair food and people arrive early to get the best spots. Club LeConte has a party for members at the top of the tallest building in town. We just go down to the river and find a spot by the train tracks.

I shot these with my little Canon Digital Elph (may it rest in peace) & Nate’s brother Aaron joined us along with Karrie & Bryan (yes, the Karrie of The Brick Cottage fame).

  1. Love the picture of Bryan covering his ears. I’m debating whether or not to bring our niece to Boomsday this year–I’m thinking it’ll be fun and will probably exhaust her and she’ll be asleep by the time we get home (which will be good for two people who have no experience putting kids to bed) but the crowds–I’m feeling claustrophobic just thinking about it! But then again, watching the fireworks cascading off the bridge just might be worth it. Will you all be back in town on Monday?

  2. How old is she? Nathan’s younger cousins either enjoyed it or slept through it.
