Aw, you shouldn’t have

So, we received a real gift from our cats last night. They are mighty hunters and are constantly protecting us from Kroger and Best Buy bags along with terrifying crickets (of the very, very small variety). Last night we receive a gift to top all others.

We’ll start with the fact that we have been out of town for a week and more and really have been gone more than home. The kitties have been super deprived and neglected, so when we returned, they were all lovey. We were putting things away and generally settling back in, when Nate made the discovery. Sitting in the middle of the walk way to the couch in the den was a chewed on mouse.

It was all mangled looking and it’s fur was all matted from the chewing it had suffered. It was really gross, but this was a gift. So we collected the cats and praised them highly in thanks for this wonderful and very thoughtful present. Then the mouse twitched.

Luckily, I didn’t see the twitch, but Nate and Aaron did. We quickly scooped it onto a shovel and discovered it’s foot was no longer attached. Aaron was very brave and put the poor thing out of it’s misery.

We think it was Rupert’s doing. India usually announces his kills and makes as much noise as the victim bag will allow. This was simply deposited. Also, after the disposal of the body, Rupert went to the corner in the garage we think the mouse came from and just stared. Then he sat and stared at the laundry area. I think he wasn’t quite done.
